System Requirements

To supply the carburetor and the CheaterTM system, use a fuel pump designed to operate between 5 and 10 psi with a flow rate of 0. 1 gallons per hour per horsepower at 6 psi. For example, an engine that makes 450 HP when the CheaterTM System is activated will require a fuel pump that flows at least 45 gallons per hour at 6 psi. Because the high cylinder pressures generated with this kit greatly increase the load on the pistons, we recommend forged pistons for extra strength. Since many standard ignition systems experience misfire at high cylinder pressures and/or high RPM, we recommend using a high quality performance ignition system with adjustable timing. Intake manifolds which have an individual orifice for each carburetor venturi should not be used with Cheater- systems other than 3 x 2bbl. applications. Open plenum single plane and tunnel ram intakes work best.

The Cheater- system from NOS, which is designed for use with 350 c.i.d. and larger displacement carbureted engines, has become the most popular nitrous system on the market. It uses larger nitrous and fuel solenoids than our Powershot- and Super Powershot systems and can be adjusted in a matter of seconds to any desired power level from 150 to 250 extra horsepower by changing the nitrous and fuel jets. Clearly, the NOS "Cheater" is designed for the serious performance enthusiast! This easy-toinstall kit utilizes a thin 1/2" injector plate, which fits between the carburetor and intake manifold so as to provide ample hood clearance. The "Cheater" comes in both single stage and dual stage models -the latter being best suited to those applications where full power should not be applied at once due to traction limitations. It is also possible to regulate the application of power with even greater control using Progressive Nitrous Controllers, shown elsewhere in this catalog. It is important to note that in order to obtain the full benefits from the power gains of this system, some internal engine modifications may be necessary. The Cheater system includes a 10 lb. capacity nitrous bottle, 4 stages of jets, aircraft quality steel braided lines, and all other necessary electrical and mounting hardware for a complete installation.
